Honey Butter

This honey butter recipe is super simple and is a quick way to take your biscuits, toast, bagels, croissants, dinner rolls, etc. to the next level. There are only 4 ingredients, most of which you probably already keep on hand so whipping up this delicious spread will be incredibly rewarding for minimal effort!

Ingredients you’ll need

Baking & Pantry Items

  • Sea salt (only if using unsalted butter)
  • Powdered sugar
  • Ground cinnamon (optional, but recommended)

  • Butter (unsalted or salted)

Equipment you’ll need

  • Mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer or electric hand mixer
  • Measuring spoons/cups
  • Jar or Tupperware (for storage)

A note on the ingredients in your honey butter

Because there are only a few ingredients in this recipe, ingredient quality is very important. Get the highest quality, preferably raw honey (because it’s better for us) that you can. You can even experiment with flavored honey to add another layer of complexity to your honey butter.

The same goes for the butter. You will definitely taste the difference if you skimp on it, so get the best butter you can. Check out some of our favorite brands of butter to use for biscuits and other recipes in general.

The powdered sugar may seem unnecessary and redundant as another sweetener, but it actually makes the butter a bit thicker and gives it a nice spreading consistency.

Using sea salt just takes the butter up a notch. Feel free to use other high-quality, but plain salts like Himalayan pink salt or kosher salt.

  • Mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer or electric hand mixer
  • Measuring spoons/cups
  • Jar or tupperware for storage

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, optional, if using salted butter
  • 3 Tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional, but recommended

  • Place softened butter in a mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer. Beat the butter until smooth. Add honey, salt, powdered sugar, and cinnamon to the bowl and continue beating at medium speed, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed, until the ingredients are fully incorporated and the butter is smooth.
  • Taste the honey butter (either plain or on a piece of bread) and add more honey or salt if needed. Serve immediately with alongside rolls, biscuits, toast, etc. Feel free to drizzle with additional honey and/or a sprinkle of sea salt for table presentation.

For storage

  • Transfer butter to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
