After 30-35 minutes, remove the cobbler from the oven and top it with all of the streusel. Return to the oven for another 15-25 minutes or until golden brown on top and fully set. Remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use fresh or frozen blackberries: Blackberries are the star of this cobbler, and you can use either fresh or frozen berries depending on availability.
Adjust the sweetness: Taste your blackberries before adding sugar to the filling. If they are very sweet, you may need to reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe.
Add lemon zest: Lemon zest adds a bright, citrusy flavor that complements the sweetness of the berries. Grate the zest of one lemon and mix it into the filling.
Use a combination of flours: For the streusel topping, try using a combination of all-purpose flour and almond flour. This adds a nutty flavor and extra texture to the cobbler.
Experiment with spices: While blackberries are delicious on their own, you can enhance their flavor by adding spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the filling. Start with a small amount and adjust to your taste.
Don't overmix the batter: When making the cobbler batter, be careful not to overmix. Overmixing can develop gluten and result in a tougher texture. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
Let it cool slightly before serving: The filling will be very hot straight out of the oven. Allow the cobbler to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving to avoid burning your tongue.
Store leftovers properly: If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or oven before serving.
Get creative with toppings: While streusel is a classic choice for cobbler, don't be afraid to experiment with different toppings. You can try using crushed nuts, oats, or even a crumbled cookie topping for added flavor and texture.
