Every year, my Aunt Linda makes lime (and cherry) slush for the family Christmas party. Every year, it is a hit. And I finally asked her for the recipe. I’ll leave the exact family recipe a secret, but here is a simple recipe that tastes just as good. Lime slush is a crowd-pleaser that combines jello, pineapple juice and ginger ale into a delicious party punch.

Step by step instructions for making lime slush
Make the jell-o mixture
Start by boiling more than 4 cups of water. No need to measure up front, but you’ll want to use more than 4 cups to make up for potential evaporation while it’s boiling.
Combine a big box of lime jell-o and 2 cups of sugar in a large bowl. Stir in 4 cups of boiling water and stir for 3-4 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved.
Add a 46 oz can of pineapple juice and 1 cup of lemon juice or water (1) for flavor and (2) to thin out the jell-o just a bit more.
Freeze
Divide mixture into two gallon sized freezer-safe ziplock bags. Freeze until the mixture is completely solid – 12 hours or overnight.
Serve
To serve, add one or two of the frozen mixture to a pitcher or punch bowl. Pour ginger ale over the ice to help break it up. Use a spoon to break up any large chunks.
Ways to adjust lime slush
- Make CHERRY slush. It’s the exact same recipe and process – just substitute lime for cherry jell-o
Use 1/2 cup each of lemon and lime juice instead of just lemon juice, if you happen to have both on hand. - Use your favorite lemonade instead of plain lemon juice. This will add some additional sweetness.
- Use 1 cup of jalapeño lemonade for a little kick. Slice and remove seeds from 2 jalapeños then add to a large bottle of lemonade. After about a day, the lemonade will be spiced and great for punches and cocktails.
